MPs had a back to school day last Friday and I went to Phoenix High in Shepherds Bush. Some years ago this school had major problems but it has been making excellent progress in recent years. It really is good to see the differences.
The Head, William Atkinson and his staff have done a fantastic job and the pupils were well behaved alert and asking very good questions – better then I could have asked at their age!
Excellent idea on MPs going into schools. It must be a good thing for children see MPs in real life, not as they are portrayed in the media. Congrats to the Head and staff. It shows what good teachers can achieve. Wonder if you told them about blogging. It'd be interesting to read young people's thoughts and feelings on certain issues - especially re voting and the media.
Two young teenagers that I know, say they get bored at school and seem not to have much respect for their teachers because the staff are so disorganised. Some days the supply teacher does not even turn up. And so the class just sit there, at their desks, waiting for someone to tell them what to do. No-one tells them, so they all just goof off for a smoke and hang around town. Or go home.
