Iraq

Whether the deaths in Iraq total 60,000 or 600,000 it is far too many and far more then would have been the case if we had followed the usual policy with a proper post conflict plan of action.

The following question in the Lords makes that point. That is the real lesson of Iraq and there is something particularly poignant when the story about the deaths is in the same papers as a large advert calling for intervention in Darfur.

The circumstances are obviously different but whether it is failing states or despotic states the problem is not going to go away quickly. If I had my time again I would be asking to see a cast iron committment to a post conflict policy.

"We have all paid a very high price for that."

The Iraqi's have paid the high price, we have paid nothing in comparison.

Get some perspective Clive.

You know it's a lot nearer to 600,000 and could (a will) be more. How many must die before people like you will admit that the invasion was wrong? Have you no shame?
