Parliamentary privilege

Charlie Falconer - the Lord Chancellor - made the following personnel statement in the House yesterday. The BBC did broadcast the privileged information.

The general information he gave is of course correct. This apology only refers to the BBC's broadcast.

Hi Clive,

I was interested to see whether you might be pushed to do a post on the Saddam trial? I would be interested to hear your, and your readers, thoughts.

Personally I don't believe in the death-sentence and so I feel that the judgement goes too far, however having seen little of the trial I am not too knowledgeable about what might have been a 'fairer' judgement.

Other than this I wondered if you were aware of any sites that list government-funded contracts that are becoming available/under discussion. I always hear about who is given the contract, but would be interested in the discussion process (though understand it may be priviledged information).

Thanks,

Paul
